RE: are most of you overweight?????
Not to concerned about being pulled over to be weighed towing a 5er BUT what about of you are in a serious accident, that will be the first thing they check and if you are over weight you are screwed, your fault or not. is this true?
I think your concern is valid and we should all operate within the safe GVWR of our vehicles. The two areas which impact safety is tires overloaded and braking ability to handle panic stops. You can be careful and most are, but Sh**t happens. I work for a major insurance company and manage a dept handling auto claims. The majority of insurance personnel (not all) are not versed in heavy vehicle RV's operation. It could very well be a factor to place more liability on you, but no where in any Ca insurance policy can they refuse to honor a claim for being over weight. They can use that as a consideration for future renewal, but must contractually honor a claim. Lucky for many people considering this topic!
RE: Towing Cargo Trailer w/Fiver
In 05 we caravaned with a group from So Cal to Sturgis, SD MC rally. One of the couples had a Dodge dually towing a 30' fiver and 10' enclosed trailer with their Gold Wing in it. It seemed to handle well and we were never stopped anywhere. He had no camera to see it and no trailer brakes on this 2600 lb loaded trailer. Camera and brakes would seem to be a must for safety. He did have the 6spd stick and exhaust brake. Traveling at 60 mph behind it seemed very stable. I've heard your supposed to have an endorsement(don't know which one) on your lic in Ca to be legal towing doubles and 65' max length.
RE: Anyone downsizing?
I have yet to see an Armored truck following a Hurst, so my objective is to spend everything I can and if that happens to be on fuel for my MH, so be it.
Well said !! No intention of downsizing here either. We only drive 5 or 6K per year so it's not as critical to us as many full timers who drive double that or more. RVing is what I enjoy most and will have to save $$ in other places to continue this pleasure. I have slowed down some to help the mpg out.

RE: Walmart stays
I guess you have not seen the documentry about WalMart. It has a segment about the lack of security in there parking lots. It has a list of WalMart parking lots all over the U.S. that have had robberies, murders, shootings, and many other types of crimes. Do you want to take a chance? It's like Russian roulett, a gamble. You could loose. By the way, why do you think that some cities have ordinances against overnite parking? They are not trying to be mean, it's for your own safety.
We stay at WM several times a year, one near Georgetown, Co and also Casper, Wy. Never a problem and most RV ers are sleeping by early eve and quiet. Truck stops are handy as well, but noisy w/trucks and often times, vagrants. Some ordinances don't allow overnight stays as it reduces revenue income for RV parks and Motels etc as one consideration, but also it keeps some of the undesireables away. They are not worried about our safety.
